VMware Unlocker for macOS or macOS Unlocker VMware 15 (Unlocker for VMware) is quite a handy tool that replaces a few documents such as VMware-vmx vmwarebase.dll, vmwarebase. 1) Since this tool will be changing and updating the binary files of the VMware workstation, it is always good practice to backup the VMware program folder before executing the unlocker.2) After downloading the zip file, extract it.3) If you have the previous unlocker version, you must uninstall it first.
To do that, right-click on the uninstallation script and execute it as administrator.Note: VMware workstation or player must be completely switched off before running this script.4) Close any working Virtual machines and VMware program. If you have the older version of the VMware workstation earlier than version 11, you need the older version of the unlocker. Here is working Big Sur 10.16 on Windows 10 with VMware workstation 16.After patching the VMware workstation with this unlocker, the patch is no longer valid if you upgrade the VMware to any major versions. You may not be able to run or create macOS VMs anymore. You need to run the latest unlocker (which has the support of the VMware version you upgraded) to get the macOS virtual machine support again.
a) Visit the official site to download unlocker 2.0.7 (free registration required). This works for VMware workstation 11.b) For VMware versions 10, 9, 8 and 7, you need to get version 1.0.3.Here is the link to download.

So is this working with vmware 15.5 and windows 10 version 1909? I want to create a new install myself with a mac image. And second question: can i use the same unlocker for older versions of mac osx like Tiger (intel?)
I installed the latest version of this patch in the latest version of ESX 5.1, it worked great and allowed me to spin up a Mac OS virtual machine in my ESX environment. After I installed it, I am unable to vMotion any virtual machines to this host. To test, I uninstalled it and vMotion began to work. My goal is to patch one host at a time without occurring any downtime to the virtual machines. This occurred when my hosts were on different versions. I upgraded all hosts to the latest and greatest for 5.1 and I still encounter the same issue. I can vMotion a few servers to this host with the unlocker installed, but after that vMotion breaks. The error I get is Operation timed out. It gets to 14%, Migrating active state of virtual machine. I am running VMware ESX Enterprise Plus 5.1.1157734. Any ideas why vMotion stops working with this patch installed?
The unlocked is only really working for standalone ESXi and there are known issues with vCenter including vMotion problems. I would post in the forum thread for ESXi and ask the folks there for advice -esxi-5-mac-os-x-unlocker/
The patch is free and can be downloaded from this page. MacOS Unlocker 2.0.8 is used in this example due to ESXi support. The newest version of macOS unlocker is version 3.0.2. Unlocker 2 supports both VMware ESXi and VMware Workstation, while Unlocker 3 only supports VMware Workstation (including the latest versions of VMware Workstation). Version 2.0.8 is the latest version of the patch with ESXi support.
After downloading the patch, copy the patch files to the datastore on ESXi. You can use WinSCP, which supports the transfer of files over SSH by using SFTP, SCP, WebDAV, or S3 protocols (in Linux you can use the equivalent software). WinSCP has a user-friendly graphical user interface (GUI), and consists of two main panels. Copy the unlocker files from your local directory to your datastore on the ESXi server. In this example the unlocker patch and the macOS Sierra installation ISO image (Sierra.iso) were created beforehand, and are placed in C:\Virtual\images_MacOS for convenience. The patch is copied to /vmfs/volumes/datastore1 on the ESXi server. Sierra.iso would be copied to the datastore40. Later, you can mount the ISO image from the datastore to the virtual DVD drive of the virtual machine.
After copying the macOS unlocker patch to the ESXi server, you should add the permissions for the executable files in order to be able to apply the patch. Go to the directory where the patch is placed (if you use a different directory, type the name of your directory) by typing cd
MacOS can be installed on a VMware VM running on ESXi. This can be done after the preparation of a bootable installation image of the ISO format with hdiutil, applying a free patch on an ESXi server and configuring certain VM settings. It is not recommended to install the macOS unlocker patch on ESXi servers that are used in production environments, in order to minimize the probability of any possible issues or negative impacts on production VMs. In this blog post, we have covered the installation of macOS Sierra due to its high popularity among users; however, you can also use the explained logics for installing macOS High Sierra and macOS Mojave on VMware VMs running on ESXi.
It looks like by default VMWare sets USB compatibility to 1.1, and the VM did not recognize my USB mouse or keyboard. Changing that to 2.x got those working. The VM you end up with will also work with Linux VMWare WorkStation. You need the Linux VMWare unlocker (in the same zip file that has the Windows one).
Hi Rigo, no it shouldn't take that long to install... What hardware resources have you give the VM? CPU and memory? Are you using an SSD? What point does the install get stuck? What version of VM workstation are you using? Please let me know. Thanks!
Hi again. I haven't tested what happens when VMware workstation is upgraded. I think if you don't see the option to create a macOS virtual machine, you'll need to rerun macOS unlocker. Hope that helps!
